Background . The Kagraner Square, the physical structure of an old village green with a central, elongated square and low, sometimes only to be shot term development. The course is oriented west-east. Its cross section narrows at the ends, making the character of a street formed.
The main access is from East and West over a four-lane road that splits in the center of the square, creating a green, verkehrsumspülte lens is formed. From the south two children hit the streets Place. Due to the dominance of road use in connection with the elongated shape and the displacement of the pedestrian to the building fronts the site currently can not be perceived as a place. Particularly striking is the very high density of commercial establishments. The development includes a number of cases in not directly to the court-side base line, resulting in private 'forecourt' result to be used for various purposes (parking, garden, etc.). Otherwise, the building is closed permanently.
objective of the draft . The Kagraner Square space as a place to be seen and experienced, which is the special character of the village green structure to be preserved and emphasized. The current dominance of private transport mototisierten to be in an equal footing with each other through out the non-motorized uses. The course will be multi-functional rooms and both cultural and commercial uses of space offer or support the diverse commercial offer and iniziieren a lively exchange with the current uses in the base area of the building. The recovery function is to be upgraded substantially.
interventions in the transport function.
is currently over the place an overall corridor of private motor vehicles out, and guides the movement of the Wagramerstraße and Donaufelderstraße the A23 or the industrial estate Stadlau. This axis will be moved north on the road 'on the long field'. About the station is merely a two-lane road to provide access out of the place itself. On the same route the tram line 26 is passed over the place and extended towards seaside Aspern. For equal rights with the pedestrians and cyclists to underscore in place, the road is raised to level of the square. Place and the road in terms of material properties (large format natural stone paving) are not distinguished. For a definition of the road are open drainage channels.
Spatial interference . The long space is divided into three areas. The narrow western end of a range is created with a shopping street character, the eastern area is soft and green formulated as a park. The central, expanded the area being developed as a place. To reach that area, a spatial clamp used to act as backbone for the place - the backbone. This element is designed as increased green belt (seat height) and is pulled up a ramp on the ends, whereby the ends of the square are defined visually. In addition, the enhanced visual effects by planting trees behind and beside the raised ends.
multifunctional backbone . To accommodate different functions and to ensure the paths through the square is the backbone element is split into different segments that can be perceived due to their strong linear emphasis as a unit.
The western ramp of the backbone is as 'hard' Grandstand with seating areas and wooden benches (concrete broom finish oak) designed with an upstream stage area. Grandstand and the stage are always accessible and can be freely interpreted in their use (class outdoor view point, meeting point, Skateparcourt, etc.)
's two central segments are formed as erhöhre lawns. Offset Naschbeerenhecken resistant form spatial situations that can be used for sunbathing or a game room. In each of these two segments is a sidewalk café integrates rented from cafes or restaurants can.
is at the eastern end cut through the backbone of the tram route. At this point, a tram stop is inserted, whereby the backbone is replaced by a hub function as the parent input to the place. The eastern approach is designed as a soft lawn slope and forms the transition in the parking area.
between the segments is a space for cars, or an area with wooden benches and planting troughs (see right) is provided.
south of the backbone, a (farmers) market developed with 48 pitches.
New construction lines . to define the space more spatially the building lines for the possible redevelopment of land will be adapted smoothly. The ends of the central square area are deliberately narrowed or building projections are formed which make the place more clearly readable.
The new building lines in the space area as a dark stripe lining made visible. Behind this strip include the 'front gardens' at the current buildings. These gardens are to be retained to realize a new development and give the place a special, very personal nature (see Figure 1, top right leaf). The model

parking area. The eastern end of the green Plazes widens into a large green area which extends to the south. The green raised end of the backbone serves as a particular game element and as a unifying observation deck at the transition between the square and park in the north and east of the park is bounded by minor roads in the south it extends to one of the development upstream asphalt surface on the one hand the development of the buildings, but also to play, sport and gastronomy should be usable. The green itself is planted with shady trees and equipped with wooden bunks. For quick crossing a north-south route running was provided. In the southern area, there are
eien children's playground and other wooden bunks. A private building that is located in the parking area will be involved creatively in the parking space and could in the future be used as a children's garden with direct park access, or youth center.
