In the cosmogony myths of ancient cultures the word chaos Describes the primitive state out of Which the world, with gods, sky, earth and men developed. In these myths chaos doesn‘t mean disorder, but a state of
emptiness and ‚nothing‘, as well as the undifferentiated unity of everything. In this ancient meaning chaos
doesn‘t describe a completely disturbed, mixed up state, but an in itself resting unity of everything.
THEORETICAL CONCEPT
The aim of our garden is to break with the common meaning of chaos as something which is unstructured and mixed up. By showing this ancient meaning of chaos we want to surprise the visitors und underline the meaning of chaos as unity and undifferentiated primitive state of everything. The highly differentiated forms of life, which emerged from the unity of chaos, will be presented as a counterpart.
SPATIAL AND VISUAL CONCEPT
Chaos will be the centre of our garden surrounded by life which emerged out of it. Both elements of the garden will be connected by a pathway. To visualize chaos we will create a spot where the boarders between a room’s elements, floor, walls and ceiling (sky) dissolve in an elusive mass of thin sticks and melt into one and another to become a greater undifferentiated unity. This chaotic spot is placed in a field of many different grass species, which symbolise the life that was differentiated out of the primitive state and unity of chaos. The linear structures of the grasses are corresponding with the linearity of the elusive mass of thin sticks, Which create spot the surrounding of the center.
